Titisee - Neustadt Visit Leighton
Teachers, musicians and others visited Leighton Linslade over the weekend. First to arrive, on the Thursday evening were a party of 12 teachers from a number of schools in Titisee who were reciprocating a similar visit by teachers from Leighton last October. All the teachers were accommodated with host families who organised the transport to and from the selected schools on the Friday.
We used both The Cedars and Vandyke Upper School, Leighton Middle School, Linslade, Pulford and Beaudesert Lower Schools. All the teachers reported most enjoyable and informative visits with the promise of much follow up work to enable more contacts to be established.
On Friday morning the Bürgermeister Mr Hinterzeh and other members of their Twinning Association together with 19 youngsters who formed an accordion band flew into Luton whilst some 30 more visitors endured a 15 hour coach trip to arrive at The Cedars in time for some food before bed.
On the coach were the 20 members of the Hefelochblätzer band who together with other visitors stayed for the weekend at the Buzzards Scout hut in Grovebury Road. Whilst the Accordion band were accommodated with families from the scout and guide movement in Leighton Linslade.
Saturday again saw the group split with the Hefelochblätzer band staying in Leighton whilst everyone else were taken to Oxford via Abingdon and the river Thames for the day. In the evening there was an official reception for the visitors and hosts held at The Raven theatre which included a hot meal and a concert given jointly by the Cedar's Jazz band and the Hefelochblätzer Band which was a great success.
Sunday had most people in Heath and Reach where potted sports had been provided for the youngsters which was followed by a BBQ with grateful thanks to the Heath and Reach Scout Group for their support. Then the parties had to split with the teachers and civic dignitaries returning home on an early evening flight, The accordion band performing a concert at Tudor Court and the Hefelochblätzer band taking a trip to London for the afternoon.
The remaining group had an early morning call to be at Grovebury Road for 5 am to take the coach which dropped the accordion band off at Luton Airport then continued on to Dover and home where they arrived about 9:30 pm local time.
