The St Georges Day Scout Parade
Each year the Leighton-Linslade Scout Council holds a special parade and
service to mark St George's Day. This year it was the turn of All Saints Church
to host the event.
The
members of the Scout Association assembled in a car park and marched down the
High Street to Church Square then into the church. Our guests had been invited
to attend and reserved seats were held for them in the V.I.P. area of the
church.
There
are some 300 members of the association split between 7 scout Groups. Each Group
has Beavers, Cubs and Scouts with the District running the older Explorer group.
Each section has its own flag so when there is a parade there are quite a few
flags. These are processed into the Church at the beginning of the service and
placed upon the altar.
The service always includes the renewal of the Scout Promises for each section and there are always prayers written by members specifically for the event. At the end of the service the VIP's are escorted through the congregation to review the standards and then meet with members of the association over a cup of coffee back in the Church.
A fine end to a very busy weekend visit.
