Planting the Tree
Saturday morning began with the tree planting in the Town centre
park Parsons Close which is situated beyond the parish church of All Saints just
off the High Street.
The Tree, a Silver Fir, was delivered to Leighton Linslade in October 2004 but,
because of problems with the original location has been stored by the Town
Council in its compound until a suitable alternative site could be found and a
date agreed with the Bürgermeister.
A
group of some 37 members of the Twinning Forum, Town Council and the public were
present when Mayor Councillor Russ Goodchild invited Armin Hinterseh to join him
in planting the tree.
Mayor Goodchild reminded those present that the Tree was
originally offered to the chairman of the Forum Chris Hinchliff when he was
Mayor by the then Bürgermeister Martin Lindler. Last year Mr Hinterseh confirmed
the offer was still available and arranged for the tree to be shipped to
Leighton-Linslade. In his speech Mr Hinterseh spoke about the tree being typical
of the Higher Black Forest and whilst small now he hoped that it would grow, as
an example of the links that are being developed between our Towns.
After the planting the Vicar of All Saints blessed the tree as a symbol of the friendship that has and continues to be developed between the Towns.
