May Day 2005

This year saw some very good weather for the annual May Day fare which is organised by the Rotary Club. The High Street was closed to traffic and the market stalls set up on either side of the road with some Fun Fair rides at the bottom and a Helter Skelter at the top. The fair begins at 10 am but there is a lot of activity much earlier than that as the charity stalls set up.

The area around the market cross is used as an arena with various groups performing or putting on demonstrations such as karate. Here also Pulford's Lower school perform their traditional May Pole Dancing around a portable May Pole. The Fun Fair rides do add much noise and energy to the event as well as enjoyment for the hundreds of youngsters who enjoy the rides

The whole event is aimed at raising money for local charitable groups and is a very big part of the local charity scene. The Rotary club receive fees from commercial stalls such as the Fair and also small donations from the charity stalls to help defray the costs of the event. The High street is not the only location for the event which also has stalls set up in Church Square and Pulfords Recreation grounds.

The High Street area very soon filled up  with families out to enjoy themselves

This year say the event clash with another annual event which involves All Saints church and the Alms Houses on North Street. This event is known as The Wilkes Walk and occurs on Monday of Rogationtide. For more information click here
