Saturday
Following the tree planting there was no official programme for
our Guests however as the Bürgermeister had expressed an interest in
seeing London and Mr Jolk being a mathematician was interested in seeing
Bletchley Park the party split up with the chairman accompanying Mr Hinterseh to
London and his wife Christine leading the trip to Bletchley Park.
London was reached using our railway service Leighton-Linslade
is on the West Coast Main Line which joins London with Birmingham, Manchester
and Glasgow.
Our local service takes between 35 minutes and an hour depending upon how many
stations it stops at. Arriving at Euston station we took the underground to
Victoria where we joined a Tour Bus to view the sites of the West End and
Kensington areas before joining a boat for a trip up the River Thames to The
Tower of London. The weather was not at its best but we managed to avoid the
rain and still see most of the places of interest that were available in such a
short time.
One of the problems of site seeing in London is the size of the
place and the number of people working and visiting the area. Whilst we were
able to see the sites we did not actually visit any of them just looked from the
outside.
This is one reason why Mr Hinterseh has been quoted as saying he wishes to
return with his family to spend a holiday actually seeing what goes on in these
attractions.
The rest of the party with Christine Hinchliff spent most of the morning
exploring the High street area of Leighton with its Market and the church of All
Saint's . After lunch they did manage to visit Bletchley Park and join one of
the excellent guided tours. Regrettably we forgot to provide a digital camera so
there are no pictures of the day from them.
