Other sites and Buildings
From the small village overlooked by the Commanderie in the 12th century to today Coulommiers has grown and developed
but there still remains buildings that remind one of the history of the Town. The Town Museum is housed in a converted chapel built for the chateau of the Duchess of Longville that stood in the Park des Capucins. There are just 3 small ruins left from that chateau The centre of Town has, as would be expected a number of important buildings not all are very old. The Cheese Hall for example was totally re-furbished in 1999 -2000 and it now looks very impressive at the end of Cours
Gambetta. The church of St Denis dominates the top of the Rue du Palais de Justice with its very colourful flower beds and trees. Along this road is the site of the old gaol, now a library which has been restored to a very high standard.

Obviously the Town Hall and the civic buildings that stand on the Quai de l'Hotel De Ville are not only functional but also
in keeping with status of the Town.
I did discover a few more unusual buildings on my walks around the Town including Les Octrois on the Place de Verdun, an old guard tower on the Avenue Victor Hugo and the end of what is obviously quite an old building at the back of my hotel.
